Grand celebrations on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary

Jammu witnessed grand celebrations on Saturday to mark the 128th birth anniversary of the last Dogra ruler– Maharaja Hari Singh on September 23.

The J&K government last year declared the birth anniversary of the Maharaja a public holiday after intense agitations staged by Yuva Rajput Sabha and Jammu masses in the city at Dogra chowk demanding a holiday for the king.

Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) took out rallies, distributed sweets and organized cake-cutting ceremonies at various places to mark the birth anniversary of their dear Dogra king.

Led by YRS president Vikram Singh, Rajan Singh Happy and others, exuberant youth danced to drum beats garlanded showered flowers at the life-size statue of the Dogra king on the main Tawi Bridge.

The YRS also took out a giant statue of the Dogra king in the rally and danced to drum beats. The traffic had to be diverted to the other bridge as the main tube remained packed with people.

Attired in traditional Dogra turban, the elated youth shouted slogans like “Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Amar Rahe” (Long live Maharaja) and “Jai Duggar Jai Dogra”.

The YRS members also cut a 128 kg ‘Ladoo’-shaped cake with a sword in the morning to celebrate the birthday of the last Maharaja of the erstwhile princely state of J&K
