A married couple was among 10 people who were killed in four separate road accidents in two days in Jammu, Kathua and samba districts, police said.

Two teenagers were killed in a multiple collision, involving three cars and a truck, on the outskirts of Jammu. Mithali (15) and Keshu (16), both of Guda Brahmana village, were crushed when three cars collided with each other before hitting a parked truck in Akhnoor. The police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident, a motorcycle was hit by an unknown truck at Sarore Adda, Bari Brahamana, resulting in serious injuries to two people, identified as Surender Kumar son of Ram Chand of Jakhbad, Kathua, currently putting up in Nehru Market, Jammu, and his wife Neema Devi.

“The injured were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu where doctors declared them as dead on arrival,” said police.

Meanwhile, an army soldier died and four others were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck at Chappar Morh area of Hiranagar Tehsil of Kathua District on Saturday.

Police identified the deceased jawan as Sunil Singh, 37, son of Tirath Singh and injured as Manpreet Kour, 30 (wife of Sunil Singh), Ashmeet Singh, 8 (son), one-month-old Gurjit Kaur (daughter) and Harvinder Kaur, wife of Mohinder, all residents of Kangwala, Samba.
Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law at concerned police stations and taken up further investigations.

On Friday, five people, including a woman, were killed and 15 others sustained injuries after a mini bus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Sila village of Billawar in Kathua district, the police said.

The accident took place in the evening when the driver lost control of the private bus while negotiating a blind curve. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed condolences over the loss of lives in Kathua mishap.
