3 terrorists killed, 2 jawans injured in Shopian encounter

At least three unidentified terrorists have so far been killed and two jawans injured in an ongoing encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Two back to back encounters between terrorists and a joint team of security forces began in Anantnag and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday evening.

The police recovered one AK-47 and a pistol from the spot. The Shopian operation was over following the elimination of all three terrorists. Meanwhile, the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are being ascertained, an official said.

Police said the first encounter started at Hadipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district while the second began at Semthan Bijbehara area of the Anantnag district. The firefight between terrorists and security forces at both the places took place after joint teams of the police and the army cordoned off the areas and launched search operations on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spots where terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounters. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Baba Mohalla after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists.

Meanwhile, another gunfight that erupted in Anantnag district on Saturday evening is currently underway. The gunfight broke out at Semthan in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on an intelligence input about the presence of militants, the official told PTI. He said further details were awaited.

In a brush between militants and security in the Shopian district of Jammu And Kashmir, 3 militants were encountered by the security. One militant has surrendered. His name is said to be Taufik Ahmed. According to the News Agency ANI the search operation is still on. It was said that the brush has started in Kanigam of the Shopian district and that some militants have been cordoned by the security forces.
Before this, Jammu Kashmir had informed that Shopian where the brush is currently happening, Al Badr hired four militants have been cordoned off. According to the Police, they are trying their best that the militants surrender their themselves along with their weapons.

Last month the security forces had arrested a militant belonging to the Al BADR group seizing weapons and gunpowder. The militant was identified as Gulzar Ahmed Bhatt, resident of Bathpora Arvani Anantnag.

Security Forces had attained great success in March in Sapore of the the Baramula district. In the brush between the militants and the security forces, the latter had encountered the divisional commander Ganai Khwaja of the militant group Al Badr. Weapons and loads of gunpowder were seized from the killed militant.

District administration Shopian on Wednesday refuted rumours about a complete COVID-19 lockdown in the district.

The District Information Centre Shopian tweeted thai afternoon that only some localities of Shopian town had been declared as micro containment zones while rest areas shall operate as per SOPs issued by the authorities.

“Some Mohallas of the town #Shopian have been declared as micro containment zones. Rest shall operate as per SOPs issued by SEC/SDMA.

31 more COVID-19 deaths reported in J&K

At least 31 more people succumbed to COVID-19 since last evening in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the fatality count to 2489, officials said on Wednesday.

Report said that eighteen of the fresh deaths were reported at GMC Jammu while the rest 13 occurred in various hospitals of Kashmir.

Among others, an 85-year-old man from Shivpora Srinagar died at SMHS hospital, a day after he was admitted there, the officials said.

They said a 55-year-old woman from Chinad Delina died at Indoor Stadium Khawajabagh Baramulla , two days after admitted to the newly set up health facility.

A 65-year-old man from Nowgam died at SMHS Hospital, two days after he was admitted, they said.

A 65-year-old man from Gulshan Abad Noor Bagh died six days after he was admitted at SMHS hospital, added the officials.

Besides, a 26-year-old man from UP, presently putting up in Habba Kadal died at SMHS hospital, five days after he was admitted.

A 50-year-old woman from Khanyar Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura, a day after she was admitted to the tertiary care hospital.

A 70-year-old man from Safa Kadal Srinagar died at JLNM hospital, a day after he was admitted there.

An 82-year-old woman Sonwar Srinagar died a fortnight after she was admitted to a hospital here.

A 65-year-old woman from Aalochi Bagh died 12 days she was admitted to the SMHS hospital.

A 75-year-old from Nowpora Srinagar and a 75-year-old man from Alamgari Bazar died at SKIMS Soura with four days of their admitted to the tertiary care hospital.

A 62-year-old from Sarnal and one more patients died at GMC Anantnag, days after they were admitted there.

Officials further infirmed that a 50-year-old woman from Zafron colony Pampora died hours after she was admitted to SMHS hospital.

With these deaths, 1024 people have died due to the virus in Jammu division and 1465 succumbed in Kashmir valley so far, they added.
